Exporting DICOM files (.dcm) from Carestream

To prepare a CBCT case for submission, export the scan as a DICOMDIR into a dedicated patient folder and do not skip the final step—compressing the folder into a ZIP file. Below are the general steps (the full step-by-step guide with screenshots is available in the PDF linked on this page).

Overview of steps

1

Create a Desktop folder

Name it with the patient’s full name.

2

Open the CBCT scan

Launch CS 3D Imaging and open the patient’s scan

3

Start export

Click Export Volume on the left menu.

4

Select export folder

Click Browse and choose the patient folder on the Desktop.

5

Set resolution options

Axial Matrix Size: Same as source · Slice Thickness: Same as source.

6

Set file format

Output: CT (one file per slice) · Compression: Uncompressed · Make sure Anonymize and Create DICOMDir are unchecked.

7

Export files

Click Export and wait for the process to finish.

8

Verify files

Confirm the folder contains many .dcm files (usually hundreds).

9

ZIP the folder (do not skip)

Right-click the folder → Send to → Compressed (zipped) folder

10

Upload the ZIP

Upload the zipped folder to the IDR portal request form.
