Frequently Asked Questions

Clear answers to the most common questions about CBCT interpretation, reports, timing, and using our HIPAA-compliant portal.

Which CBCT report should I choose: Screening or Advanced?

The Screening Report is a concise, text-only summary ideal for straightforward cases or situations where you simply need to rule out significant pathology. It’s often selected when an imaging study was taken for a specific purpose, but you’d like a radiologist to review the full scan to ensure there are no other clinically significant findings.

The Advanced Report includes annotated images, detailed key findings, and practical clinical recommendations. Choose this option for treatment planning, complex cases, referrals, or when visuals are needed to communicate findings with colleagues or patients.

What files should I upload?

CBCT scans must be uploaded in DICOM format. Each study typically includes several hundred .dcm files (the standard DICOM extension) and should be compressed into a single ZIP folder before upload. Please ensure the images are not anonymized prior to saving.

For panoramic image interpretation, please upload the .dcm file (preferred, as it allows the radiologist to adjust and analyze the image) or a JPG/PNG that includes the patient’s name and date of image acquisition.

If you experience any issues, please contact us.

Can you provide a second opinion on a study that already has a report?

Yes. Upload the DICOM files and attach the prior report. We’ll independently review the study and address your specific questions in our interpretation.

Why ZIP a DICOM folder?

CBCT scans consist of hundreds of DICOM slice files. Zipping the folder helps prevent upload errors and speeds up upload and sharing.

To ZIP the folder:

  • Right-click the patient’s DICOM folder
  • Select “Send to” → “Compressed (zipped) folder”
  • A .zip file will be created in the same location

Can I talk to a radiologist if I have a question?

Yes. Established clients have direct access to the radiologist through the portal or by phone.

Who can submit a case?

Our services are available to licensed dental professionals, including general dentists, specialists, and group practices/DSOs. Patients seeking a second opinion are encouraged to ask their dentist to submit the case or contact us for guidance.

What if image quality limits interpretation?

We’ll note any limitations (e.g., motion, metal artifacts, or partially captured FOV) and contact you if a repeat scan is recommended.

Is the portal HIPAA-compliant?

Yes. Use the portal for any information containing PHI. Please do not email patient data; email is best for general questions only.

How does billing work?

You’ll receive an email notification with a consolidated invoice on the first business day of each month for all interpretation requests submitted in the prior month. Payment is completed securely through the portal.

Can I upgrade a Screening case to an Advanced Report later?

A Screening Report may be upgraded to an Advanced Report at the radiologist’s discretion, and the provider will be notified before conversion. Providers may also request an upgrade through the portal; the case will then follow the Advanced workflow (2-3 business days standard, 12-hour rush service available).

What clinical details help you give the best read?

Provide the patient’s medical history, including any trauma, cancer, radiation, and medications, along with relevant symptoms and clinical presentation, to help refine the diagnosis. Include your clinical question and any areas of concern; clear questions yield focused, actionable answers.
